Long Description

Singapore Institute of Food & Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI) seeks to appoint an established food scientist as a Senior/Principal Investigator in the Division of Food and Sensory Science. Special interests will be on food material science and food structure design. The candidate is expected to lead food science research teams and take up responsibilities for developing research strategies and capacities. The candidate will lead and execute high-quality experiment-based original research in areas of food ingredients and compositions, food design and processing, food structure and functionalities, food science and human nutrition, AI and modelling, or other related areas of food science research. The candidate is expected to actively seek and secure competitive research grants and/or industrial funding. The candidate is also expected to mentor and nurture junior scientific and technical staff to foster talent growth and maximize research impact.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the scientific leadership of food science research relevant to SIFBI"s industrial and competitive research grant funding and aligned with Singapore’s national research priorities.
  • Provide leadership in establishing research strategy, capacity, team management and operation.
  • Lead and guide the team members in the conceptualisation, writing and submission of collaborative grant applications.
  • Lead and guide the team members in the preparation, writing and submission of high-impact scientific publications. 
  • Play an active role in the mentoring and supervising of junior scientific and technical staff.
  • Supervise and guide in the design, coordination and execution of high-quality experiment-based research, including ensuring the highest standards of data management, health, safety and ethical compliance. 
  • Contribute to the development and execution of industry research agreements, working closely with the Business Development team in SIFBI.

Job Requirements: 

  • PhD in Food Science and/or related fields, with at least 10 years independent academic or industrial research experience.
  • Evidence of established expertise with excellent track record of research publications, invited conference presentations, continuous success of funding and industrial collaborations, and social/economic impacts.
  • Track record of leadership and people development, and ability to mentor junior researchers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels.
