Requisition ID:  2705
Posting Start Date:  26/10/2026

Job Description

We are seeking a Scientist to lead the development and optimisation of cell-fate engineering approaches for generating retinal cells from alternative somatic cell sources. The successful candidate will design and execute systematic experimental strategies, establish reproducible cell-conversion protocols, and manage a research team to deliver project milestones. The role offers opportunities to translate innovative cell biology into robust processes for future therapeutic development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and optimisation of retinal cell-conversion methods using transcription factors, small molecules and/or combination approaches.
  • Design and execute systematic screening and optimisation studies covering culture conditions, treatment combinations, dosage and timing.
  • Establish quantitative molecular, cellular and functional assays to assess cell identity, conversion efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Analyse experimental data, troubleshoot technical challenges and drive evidence-based decisions on subsequent experiments.
  • Manage and mentor research staff, coordinate experimental activities, allocate tasks and monitor progress against project milestones.
  • Develop standardised protocols, maintain high-quality research documentation, and communicate findings through reports, presentations and scientific outputs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support downstream process development and translation.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • PhD in stem cell biology, developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, bioengineering or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience developing or substantially optimising cell differentiation, reprogramming or cell-fate conversion methods.
  • Strong mammalian cell culture and experimental design skills, with experience in relevant molecular or cellular characterisation techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan experiments, analyse data, troubleshoot and deliver research milestones.
  • Ability to supervise or coordinate research staff and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred

  • Experience in retinal cell biology or differentiation.
  • Experience with screening, Design of Experiments (DoE), genetic engineering, transcriptomics or process development.
  • Prior experience leading or managing a research team.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
