A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR IDL) aims to be the global leader in infectious diseases through scientific excellence in research and innovation to enhance human health and respond to future outbreaks and pandemics.
A*STAR IDL is seeking for a (Senior) Research Officer/Engineer to join us in our mission to be a leading center of infectious diseases research and support day-to-day operations of the A*STAR High Containment (Biosafety Level 3) Facility. We are seeking motivated candidates to contribute to our efforts in pandemic preparedness in a BSL-3 environment.
Job Description:
· Manage facility infrastructure, including Air Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV)/Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) services, Building Management system (BMS), gas and chemical systems, security access control, pest control, and general building maintenance to support safe and uninterrupted BSL-3 operations.
· Serve as the main liaison personnel for facility maintenance, equipment breakdowns, building issues, and emergency incidents to ensure timely resolution and operational continuity.
· Administer facility security and access control systems to support BSL-3 operations and biosecurity compliance for authorized personnel.
· Manage facility documentation to support regulatory and biosafety compliance.
· Conduct facility induction for vendors, contractors, and new users on facility safety, emergency response, and security requirements.
· Manage procurement activities for facility maintenance, services, and equipment, including vendor evaluation and contract administration.
· Contribute to laboratory certification, audits, emergency drills, and investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Facilities Engineering, or related discipline) or Biomedical Science.
· Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in facilities management within laboratory environments (e.g., BSL-2, BSL-3) and/or related industrial facilities.
· Registered Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officer with Fire Safety Manager certification will have an added advantage.
· Familiarity with quality and biosafety management systems, e.g ISO 35001/ ISO 17025/ ISO 9001 / Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
· Experience supporting laboratory facilities involving animal research is beneficial.
· A team player committed to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities under tight timelines.
· The role would require you to work in a BSL-3 environment and wear personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection equipment, and provide support to emergency response outside normal working hours when required.
