The OIS Group is seeking a highly motivated research engineer to support the design, development, and integration of advanced machine vision systems for industrial inspection. This role will contribute to both optical prototyping and system-level vision design as part of a multidisciplinary team working at the forefront of imaging and optics innovation for the manufacturing industry with particular emphasis on semiconductor manufacturing.

Job Description

 

The Optics and Imaging Systems (OIS) Group is a one-stop provider of automated optical inspection technologies. The Group carries out collaborative research with academic institutions, co-develops equipment and devices with companies, and provide technical services and training to the manufacturing industry. The OIS Group is seeking a highly motivated research engineer to support the design, development, and integration of advanced machine vision systems for industrial inspection. This role will contribute to both optical prototyping and system-level vision design as part of a multidisciplinary team working at the forefront of imaging and optics innovation for the manufacturing industry with particular emphasis on semiconductor manufacturing.

The candidate will work closely with optics, imaging, and software engineers to support the Group’s research and development efforts, with focus in the following areas:

  • Optical and opto-mechanical design for machine vision hardware.
  • Integration of imaging components and modules into full inspection systems.
  • Algorithm design and implementation.
  • Development and assembly of functional prototypes for lab testing and industrial pilots.

 

The key roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the design, assembly, and integration of high-resolution imaging systems.
  • Contribute to vision system architecture, working alongside optical and software teams.
  • Collaborate on system prototyping, lab testing, and industrial deployment.
  • Work with research scientists and engineers to translate concept designs into manufacturable hardware.
  • Support documentation of designs, drawings, and specifications for prototyping and scale-up.
  • Experiment design, test and analysis. Algorithm design for system evaluation and optimization.

Job Requirements

 

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, physics or related discipline (both recent graduates and candidates with up to 2 years’ experience are encouraged to apply)
  • Excellent understanding of optics, lasers and imaging systems is expected.
  • Strong familiarity with design for precision optical or imaging systems will be preferred.
  • Experience in Machine Learning and Deep Learning, including knowledge in frameworks, convolutional neural networks, large datasets, labelling tools.
  • Programming skills in Python and VC++ are preferred.
  • Strong team player with good problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Eagerness to learn, adapt to new technologies, and contribute across disciplines in a fast-paced R&D environment.
