Role Summary:

 

Optics and Imaging Systems (OIS) Group is seeking a highly motivated research engineer to contribute to the research and development of AI-based image recognition applications for industrial use. These applications span multiple  industrial  sectors including semi-conductor, aerospace, precision engineering, and biomedical manufacturing.

SIMTech is seeking a Research Engineer to join Optics and Imaging Systems (OIS) Group, contributing to the research and development of AI-based image recognition applications for industrial use. These applications span multiple  industrial  sectors including semi-conductor, aerospace, precision engineering, and biomedical manufacturing.

Job Description:

 

The Optics and Imaging Systems (OIS) Group is a one-stop provider of automated optical inspection technologies. The Group collaborates with academic institutions, co-develops equipment and devices with industry partners, and provides technical services and training to the manufacturing industry. 

The successful candidate will work closely with senior colleagues within OIS to strengthen the Group’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) development capabilities in the following areas,

  • Customised inspection systems for real time detection in production lines
  • Advanced imaging-based inspection equipment for quality control in manufacturing
  • Supervised estimation and self-supervised estimation of dimension for measurement of distance, depth and thickness etc.

The key roles & responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design of training methodology and development of AI modules in the following areas,
    • segmentation of target objects in images with strong background noise,
    • detection and categorization of multi small objects in large images,
    • recognition of irregular complicated pattern/structure
    • depth estimation with stereo vision image
  • Design of training strategies for high accuracy detection with small sample size including research for auto selection of valid training images within a larger image population  
  • Image processing for rule based inspection and detection
  • Evaluation of commercial and open-source tools for AI, deep learning and related technologies
  • Assist in training courses in AI-driven image processing and analysis with AI technology.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or relevant computing engineering.
  • Expertise in Machine Learning and Deep Learning, including knowledge in frameworks, convolutional neural networks, large datasets, labelling tools, model optimization etc.
  • Knowledge of Computer Vision is preferable.
  • Experience with OpenCV or similar libraries.
  • Programming Skills:
    • Proficiency in Python.
    • Experience with VC++ for image processing and hardware control.
    • Familiarity with software development best practices (version control, testing, debugging).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging with peers and management.
  • Self-moted, adaptable, proactive, and a team player.
