Job Title:  Senior Engineer, Electrical Engineering, MedTech Catapult
Requisition ID:  2343
Posting Start Date:  19/05/2026

Job Responsibilities

MedTech Catapult is a national initiative to accelerate the productisation and commercialisation of high-value MedTech products and to strengthen Singapore's MedTech innovation ecosystem. The Senior Engineer will be expected to:

  • Define and lead the design of electrical modules/subsystems within a larger medical device system (e.g., power, sensing, wireless, MCU subsystems)
  • Contribute to overall electrical system architecture and ensure proper integration between modules
  • Develop electrical requirements for system and subsystem levels
  • Design schematics and guide/perform PCB layout using tools such as Altium
  • Perform circuit simulations (e.g., worst-case analysis, tolerance analysis) as needed
  • Conduct schematic/layout design reviews and Gerber checks prior to release
  • Develop and execute electrical test plans
  • Build prototypes and test platforms to verify module and system performance
  • Perform electrical performance, functional, and reliability testing (e.g., environmental, thermal)
  • Estimate and validate battery life and optimize low-power performance
  • Participate in design risk analysis (e.g., DFMEA)
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to define and develop test modes / diagnostic interfaces for validation and compliance testing
  • Support system integration and system-level testing
  • Support EMC and electrical safety testing (in-house and with external test labs)
  • Interface with external partners (design houses, PCB vendors, test labs) to communicate requirements and review results
  • Generate and manage BOM with cost considerations
  • Prepare, review, and maintain design documentation (schematics, test reports, DHF) in compliance with quality systems such as ISO 13485
  • Support product development lifecycle activities, including design transfer and production
  • Support technical feasibility studies for new product development projects, including evaluation of electrical architecture, key component selection, and preliminary risk and performance assessment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical/embedded hardware design
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the design and development of electrical modules/subsystems, with understanding of system-level integration
  • Strong foundation in embedded system design, including analog and digital circuits
  • Experience designing battery-powered and low-power devices, including ability to estimate and validate battery life
  • Experience integrating wireless technologies (e.g., BLE, cellular, Wi-Fi modules) at system or module level
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (e.g., Altium or equivalent); PCB layout experience is an advantage
  • Ability to develop and execute electrical test plans, perform validation, and analyze results independently
  • Experience using standard electrical lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscope, DMM, signal generator)
  • Familiarity with sensors and signal acquisition used in embedded or medical devices
  • Working knowledge of EMC and electrical safety considerations (e.g., IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2), with ability to support testing activities
  • Experience working within a structured development process or quality system (e.g., ISO 13485), including documentation and traceability
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with firmware and system engineers, including defining requirements for test modes or diagnostics
  • Good problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and design trade-offs
  • Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills.

Good To Have

  • At least 3 years of experience in medical device development or other regulated industries
  • Experience with RF/antenna selection, layout considerations, and basic impedance matching
  • Exposure to EMC or regulatory testing and working with external test labs
  • Familiarity with embedded platforms (e.g., Arduino, ESP32, Nordic, Raspberry Pi)
  • Experience supporting design reviews, DFMEA, or risk management activities
  • Ability or interest to mentor junior engineers and grow into broader system ownership

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
