Senior Development Engineer - Robotic Systems

ARTC is seeking a Senior Development Engineer to join the Autonomous Systems & Robotics (ASR) group and develop intelligent reconfigurable robotic systems for industrial adoption. You will lead industrial robotic R&D projects for applications in different industry sectors, working with technical and industry partners from scoping through validation, deployment and technology transfer.

This role suits candidates who are passionate about hands-on robotic systems development, applied research and industrial deployment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead multidisciplinary robotic systems R&D projects with scientists, engineers, students, collaborators and industry partners
  • Engage stakeholders to define operational challenges, requirements, constraints and business objectives; evaluate emerging robotics, AI, software and automation technologies
  • Develop and validate intelligent systems using simulation and physical prototypes
  • Develop and integrate robot programs and modules for AI-enabled perception, planning, task orchestration and control
  • Conceptualize solutions for complex manipulation needs; prepare proposals, plans, estimates and roadmaps
  • Work with system integrators and vendors to deploy solutions in factories, warehouses and labs, produce technical documentation and present project deliverables

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Robotic Systems or a related engineering discipline
  • At least 5 years’ experience developing robotics and automation systems
  • Exceptional fresh graduates with demonstrated hands-on skills in robotic manipulation, Physical AI systems, simulation and complex robotics projects may be considered
  • Ability to independently lead full-lifecycle R&D projects and make original technical contributions beyond integration
  • Strong hands-on experience with industrial robots, cobots, mobile manipulators, humanoids or related platforms
  • Experience programming manipulation applications—such as picking, packing, assembly, disassembly, machine tending, dispensing or material handling—using ABB RAPID, URScript, KUKA KRL etc
  • Mobile robotics-only experience (e.g., navigation, SLAM) is generally insufficient, unless complemented by strong manipulation experience
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C/C++, with experience in technical scoping, proposal development, effort estimation and solution conceptualization
  • Experience developing robotic software or algorithms for task/skill orchestration, motion planning, control or autonomous execution
  • Familiarity with robotic simulators ABB RobotStudio, Visual Components, RoboDK, Siemens Process Simulate, Gazebo, Isaac Sim or equivalent
  • Experience integrating perception, planning, manipulation and control to realize complete robotic systems

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Exposure to advanced manufacturing sectors - semiconductor, aerospace, FMCG, biomedical/biopharma, energy or related
  • Knowledge of ROS/ROS 2, AI/ML, computer vision, digital twins or industrial UI/UX
  • Experience with physical or embodied AI systems (perception, planning and action), dexterous manipulation, multi-arm coordination or deformable object handling will be a plus

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, ownership, teamwork, project and time management skills
  • Adaptable, self-motivated and comfortable learning new technologies, working across robotics, AI, software, mechanical engineering for manufacturing use-cases

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
