Long Description

The A*STAR Office of Sustainability (AOS) is seeking potential candidates to take up a Senior Assistant Director position, where the candidate will be in-charge of and responsible for three key portfolios, as well as contribute to infrastructure-related initiatives, which is not limited to managing infrastructure refresh programmes to include sustainability considerations in ensuring sustainable infrastructure, preparing Building Energy Efficiency (BEE) funding applications for such refresh projects, managing utilities reduction portfolio, etc.:

 

                     Curate and Drive Sustainability Strategies for Culture Building

                     Implement A*STAR Sustainability Incentivisation & Recognition Programme

                     Publish annual Sustainability Report

 

The position requires the candidate to manage the three key portfolios for the responsibilities listed below:

Short Description

Sustainability Strategies for Culture Building

  • Lead the development and implementation of sustainability campaign and capability-building strategies to foster a strong sustainability culture across research institutes and corporate functions, to contribute towards achieving A*STAR sustainability targets and reducing resource utilisation and utilities.
  • Partner and co-create with researchers, lab managers, facilities teams, and external experts to develop relevant and operationally aligned resources (e.g. playbook), as well as organise events to promote awareness, ownership, and behavioural change in sustainability practices.
  • Drive engagement through change management skills tapping on multi-channel platforms (eDMs, intranet, events, workshops) to embed sustainability values and encourage participation across diverse stakeholder groups and promote buy-in across the organisation.
  • Monitor culture adoption and programme effectiveness using defined KPIs, and continuously refine approaches through stakeholder collaboration.

 

Short Description

A*STAR Sustainability Incentivisation & Recognition Programme:

  • Drives and works with REs to implement opportunities for sustainability value creation and value capture, such as enhancing A*STAR’s sustainability performance, build sustainability culture by galvansing individuals and entities to implement sustainability initiatives within and across entities, as well as enhance sustainability knowledge.
  • Develop and manage the implementation of the incentivization and recognition programme to contribute towards reducing resource utilisation and utilities, applying strong project management capabilities to ensure effective planning, coordination, and delivery (including publicity plans, solicit support to participate, technically evaluate the entries, organise the award(s) ceremony and manage the disbursement of A*OS funding to the entities/staff).
  • Engage large and diverse stakeholders, including RI-EDs, HODs and more than 30 Eco-Reps to solicit support for participation.

Short Description

Annual Sustainability Report (SR)

  • Understand sustainability standards (e.g. ISSB, GRI, GHG, SBTi, TCFD) and work on gaps towards ISSB Sustainability reporting for A*STAR.
  • Prepare and seek approval for our annual SR, drafted in accordance with the latest sustainability requirements (e.g. GRI, ISSB) on our four sustainability pillars (i.e. Governance, Environment, Social and R&D), highlighting its policies, initiatives and achievements. 
  • Manage the A*STAR Emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) portfolio, including evaluating the relevance of the 15 categories of Scope 3 GHG emissions to A*STAR, engaging multiple internal & external stakeholders (including suppliers and waste management companies) to gather pertinent data, by monitoring and analysing A*STAR’s Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, identify emissions hotspots and concerns, and recommend abatement plans to management. 
  • Collaborate with more than 40 research and corporate entities (i.e. Corp Comms, Corporate Planning, Community Social Responsibility, Diversity Working Group, Enterprise Risk Management, Human Resource Department, Infuse, Learning & Organisational Development, Procurement, Research entities) to gather, analyse data and information and draft the SR.
