JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking for a highly motivated Research Scientist for a recently awarded research programme to develop next-generation efficient AI frameworks for accelerated discoveries in surface science and catalysis. For this programme, we seek a passionate and committed Scientist specializing in Structural & Functional Materials to fill the following position:

Research Scientist (IMRE/A*STAR)High-throughput fabrication and structural characterization of supported alloy / high-entropy alloy nanoparticles for catalysis.

The scientist will develop and run high-throughput experimental workflows to synthesize libraries of supported high-entropy alloy (HEA) nanoparticle catalysts and generate high-fidelity structural datasets for model validation and iterative discovery cycles.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute high-throughput fabrication workflows for supported alloy/HEA nanoparticles (precursor preparation, loading on supports, and post-treatments).
  • Operate and optimize automated/robotic solution synthesis to produce diverse compositional libraries of catalysts with strong reproducibility.
  • Perform and/or coordinate structural and compositional characterization (e.g., XRD for phase verification; XRF for compositional analysis; TEM/XAS including in-situ/operando where applicable).
  • Curate experimental datasets and write technical documentation (SOPs, reports) and contribute to manuscripts and presentations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (AI/modelling and testing) and contribute to grant writing depending on experience.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience in solution synthesis of nanoparticles and heterogeneous catalyst fabrication (supported nanoparticles).
  • Strong competence in advanced nanoparticle/catalyst characterization (e.g., XRD, XRF, XAS, TEM or closely related techniques).
  • Experience with automated/robotic synthesis platforms and high-throughput experimentation is advantageous.
  • Basic scripting or data handling skills (Python/MATLAB) for instrument interfacing, data processing, or automated reporting
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Track record of high-quality publications; strong written and verbal communication and good command of English.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
