Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with strong expertise in quantum optics, microwave photonics, or experimental quantum technologies to join our research team at A*STAR. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research at the interface of optical and microwave systems, with opportunities to work on integrated photonic devices, quantum optical measurements, microwave/RF characterization, and cryogenic experiments. Candidates with hands-on experience in quantum optics, electro-optics, cavity optomechanics, microwave photonics, low-noise optical/microwave measurements, or cryogenic experimental systems are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience in photonic device design, nanofabrication, or integrated quantum photonics will be an advantage. The candidate is expected to independently develop experimental setups, perform device characterization and data analysis, and work closely with researchers across photonics, microwave engineering, materials, and quantum technologies.

Responsibilities
•    Design, develop, and characterize advanced optical and microwave experimental systems for quantum photonics and related applications.
•    Establish and operate cryogenic optical and microwave measurement platforms for device characterization at low temperatures.
•    Design and implement experimental setups involving lasers, modulators, optical cavities, microwave/RF instrumentation, photodetectors, and related components.
•    Perform quantitative analysis of device performance, including optical and microwave response, noise, efficiency, bandwidth, and other relevant figures of merit.
•    Work closely with device design and fabrication researchers to translate experimental results into improved device architectures and performance.
•    Develop automated measurement and data-acquisition workflows for complex optical, microwave, and cryogenic experiments.

Requirements
•    PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field.
•    Strong experimental background in quantum optics, photonics, microwave photonics, electro-optics, optomechanics, or a closely related area.
•    Hands-on experience in building and operating optical experiments and performing quantitative device characterization.
•    Strong analytical, experimental troubleshooting, and data-analysis skills.
•    Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly advantageous: microwave/RF measurements, integrated photonics, cryogenic experiments, superconducting devices, low-noise measurements, or nanofabrication.
•    Programming experience for experimental control, data acquisition, or data analysis (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or equivalent) is desirable.
•    Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
