Job Description

We seek a research scientist to work on the development of optical quantum memory platforms based on rare-earth-ion–doped crystals, with an emphasis on achieving quantum transduction. The successful candidate will be required to undertake the following key tasks of the project:
•    Design and simulation of superconducting devices (Ansys HFSS, Qiskit Metal, Onshape CAD)
•    Nanofabrication of superconducting devices
•    Operate, maintain, and modify set up for quantum transduction experimental platforms, including tunable RF sources, VNA, RF LNAs, cryogenic setups, and magnetic-field control.
•    Conduct systematic microwave spectroscopy and coherence characterisation, extracting key performance metrics such as spin linewidths, coherence times, and storage lifetimes.
•    Contribute to technical reports, manuscripts, and project documentation.

The position is offered for an initial period of three years, with the possibility of extension up to five years subject to performance. The role will involve travel to international synchrotron and neutron beamline facilities to support advanced experimental measurements. 

Qualification and Field of Study

PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Quantum Science, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Other Requirements (e.g. Skills, Competencies)

 

  • Strong experimental background in cryogenic microwave spectroscopy
  • Demonstrated experience with quantum transduction protocols
  • Candidates with prior experience in rare-earth-ion spectroscopy, microwave coherence control, or solid-state quantum memories will be strongly preferred.
  • Programming language (Matlab and Python)
