Job description

We are seeking a researcher with expertise in superconducting devices, microwave engineering, nanofabrication, or integrated photonics to develop next-generation photonic and microwave devices for advanced quantum technologies. The successful candidate will work on the design, fabrication, and experimental characterization of nanoscale devices integrating optical, electro-optic, and superconducting functionalities. Candidates with strong hands-on experience in cleanroom nanofabrication, superconducting thin films and devices, RF/microwave circuits, integrated photonics, or cryogenic measurements are particularly encouraged to apply. Relevant experience in electron-beam lithography, dry etching, thin-film deposition, superconducting resonators/electrodes, high-frequency device characterization, or photonic device fabrication will be highly valued. The position provides opportunities to develop novel device architectures and fabrication processes and to work across nanophotonics, superconducting electronics, microwave engineering, and quantum technologies.

Responsibilities
•    Design, fabricate, and characterize advanced nanophotonic, electro-optic, and superconducting devices for quantum and emerging photonic technologies.
•    Develop and optimize nanofabrication processes involving lithography, dry etching, thin-film deposition, metallization, and other semiconductor-compatible fabrication techniques.
•    Develop superconducting microwave structures and integrated device architectures incorporating optical, electrical, and microwave functionalities.
•    Perform optical, electrical, and microwave/RF characterization of fabricated devices, including measurements under cryogenic conditions.
•    Investigate device performance and physical mechanisms through systematic experiments, modelling, and analysis, and translate findings into improvements in device design and fabrication.
•    Develop and optimize processes for integrating superconducting materials, electrodes, photonic structures, and other functional materials on advanced photonic platforms.
•    Collaborate closely with researchers working on photonic design, quantum optics, microwave engineering, materials development, and cryogenic experiments.

Requirements
•    PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Photonics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field.
•    Strong background in nanofabrication, superconducting devices, microwave engineering, integrated photonics, or a closely related area.
•    Hands-on cleanroom experience in relevant nanofabrication techniques, such as lithography, dry etching, thin-film deposition, or metal patterning.
•    Experience in device fabrication, characterization, and experimental troubleshooting.
•    Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly advantageous: superconducting microwave devices, RF/microwave measurements, integrated photonics, electro-optic devices, cryogenic measurements, or electromagnetic/photonic simulation.
•    Strong analytical and data-analysis skills, with the ability to independently develop and optimize device fabrication or characterization processes.
•    Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
