Research Officer, Functional Genomics (GIS)

The Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS, A*STAR) is the national flagship institute for genomic sciences in Singapore. We are recruiting a Research Officer specialized in molecular biology and cell model systems to join a new incoming laboratory. The new laboratory develops and applies technologies for large-scale functional genomics screens, combining single-cell multiomics with genetic perturbation tools (CRISPR/Cas9, deep mutational scanning) in complex disease models. The aim is to resolve at genome-wide scale how genetic changes affect cell function, and to use that knowledge to understand and treat complex diseases.

As one of the first hires, you will set up the laboratory and its infrastructure together with the incoming group leader, and then take a central role in running experiments and keeping the lab operating smoothly. You will contribute directly to research projects alongside postdocs and PhD students.

Job Description:

• Perform molecular biology experiments, library cloning, cell culture, cell sorting, and lentiviral transductions.
• Plan and run large-scale genetic screens using single-cell sequencing, imaging, and FACS.
• Contribute to experimental design and ideation, data analysis, and documentation, and keep accurate, timely records of materials, protocols, and results.
• Manage orders, reagents, and equipment, and ensure safe, smooth daily operations for the whole team.
• Support postdocs and PhD students on their projects, and work with the A*STAR core facilities and our academic and industry collaborators.

Requirements:

• A degree in biology or a related field (BSc, MSc, or equivalent) from a university or technical school. We consider candidates at all levels of their career.
• Required: solid hands-on experience in molecular biology, cell culture, cell sorting, and next generation sequencing library preparation.
• Advantageous: single-cell technologies, primary cells incl. T cell isolation and cultivation, 2D/3D cell model systems, pooled genetic screening, CRISPR/Cas9, and synthetic biology.
• You are proactive, well organized, and able to plan and manage several tasks in parallel.
• You have a collaborative working style, with clear communication and strong interpersonal skills.
• The position is on-site.
