Position Summary
A Research Officer is immediately available. The Research Officer will support research activities investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer biology and RNA regulation. The successful candidate will perform a range of molecular and cellular biology experiments, contribute to experimental design and data analysis, maintain laboratory operations, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team. The role offers opportunities to contribute to high-impact publications and translational research projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute and optimise molecular and cellular biology experiments to address research objectives.
- Perform routine and advanced laboratory techniques, including nucleic acid and protein analysis, cell culture, gene expression analysis, and molecular cloning.
- Conduct functional studies using genetic and pharmacological approaches to investigate cellular signalling pathways and disease mechanisms.
- Analyse experimental data using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics tools, and maintain accurate experimental records.
- Prepare figures, summaries and reports for internal meetings, grant applications and scientific publications.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and presentation of research findings at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, manage reagent inventory and ensure compliance with institutional safety and biosafety regulations.
- Assist in supervising undergraduate students, interns and junior laboratory members where appropriate.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external research partners to support multidisciplinary research projects.
- Perform other research-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences or a related discipline.
- Experience in molecular biology, cell biology or cancer biology research is preferred.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative research environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Mammalian cell culture
- RNA and DNA extraction
- PCR, quantitative RT-PCR and digital PCR
- Molecular cloning and plasmid construction
- CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing
- RNA interference (siRNA/shRNA)
- Western blotting and immunoprecipitation
- Flow cytometry and cell death assays
- Immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy
- ELISA and protein quantification assays
- RNA sequencing and transcriptomic data analysis
- Epitranscriptomics (e.g. m⁶A RNA methylation)
- Cancer cell signalling and functional assays
- Basic bioinformatics and statistical analysis (e.g. R, GraphPad Prism)
