Job Summary

A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR IDL) is seeking for Research Officers to join us in our mission to be a leading centre of infectious diseases research. A*STAR IDL aims to develop a cohesive A*STAR response to drive and deliver translational infectious diseases research to better health and economic outcomes.

 

The laboratory led by Prof Laurent Renia is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled researcher to contribute to projects focused on zoonotic malaria.

 

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Plan, conduct, and accurately document laboratory experiments in accordance with approved protocols and institutional biosafety requirements.
  • Carry out molecular, cellular, immunological, and biochemical experiments related to parasite invasion.
  • Develop, optimise, and validate research reagents, including recombinant proteins and antibodies targeting selected parasite ligands and host-cell receptor candidates.
  • Analyse and interpret experimental data using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics approaches.
  • Prepare progress reports, scientific presentations, manuscripts, and other project-related materials.
  • Maintain thorough and organised laboratory records.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the laboratory, including routine administrative and organisational tasks.
  • Assist new students and postdoctoral researchers as they settle into the laboratory.
  • Share laboratory techniques, protocols, and expertise with students and colleagues, and contribute to their research projects.
  • Promote and uphold safe laboratory practices and ensure that technical procedures are carried out in accordance with relevant safety requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the research team and contribute to a positive, supportive, and productive laboratory environment.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Immunology, or related field
  • No minimum years of experience required. However, you must know how to work in molecular biology and in cell culture
  • Experience with BSL-2 pathogens, and cell culture will be an asset
  • General lab skills in molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RNA and DNA methods) and flow cytometry.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and multitask
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • A strong desire to constantly learn and acquire new skills
