Job Description
We are looking for a qualified individual who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, passionate and committed to laboratory ethics, to be employed for the role of Research Officer. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic team on projects relating to liver cancer, cancer metabolism, cancer immunology and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (NASH-HCC) progression. This role offers excellent opportunities to work within a multidisciplinary team and manage end-to-end experimental data packages.
Key Responsibilities
• In vitro & wet lab experiments: Cell culture, molecular biology and assays (e.g. RNA/protein extraction, RT-qPCR, Western blotting and ELISAs), microscopy etc
• Routine animal husbandry and colony management: Breeding, weaning, ear-notching/tagging, genotyping and tracking of animal cohorts.
• In vivo handling and experiments: Diet/treatment dosing regimes, body weight & composition analyses, blood sampling and terminal blood collection, tissue collection and sample preparation, perfusion, tissue/organ imaging, serum measurements etc
• Data & Lab Management: Maintain accurate monitoring and reporting of experimental set-up, protocols, results and research findings, support general lab operations, buffer preparation and reagent stock-taking
• Scientific Communication: Communicate regularly with supervisor and PI and attend lab meetings with PI and rest of the lab to discuss scientific progress and direction
Qualifications & Requirements
• Bachelor’s or master’s qualifications in Biological Science and Life Science disciplines or equivalent field
• At least 6-12 months of relevant experience in laboratory and animal work (prior academic internships, Final Year Projects, or industry attachment counts)
• Hands-on experience with basic rodent handling and restraint, competence in basic molecular biology and cellular assays (cell culture, PCR/qPCR, Western blot)
• Bonus/Advantageous: Prior completion of certified animal care and use courses (e.g., RCULA certification), technical competency in end-point sampling and tissue collection
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with a rigorous approach to experimental controls, reproducibility, and data integrity
• Excellent collaborative mindset with ability to multitask across multiple project streams and work both in teams and independently
• Highly motivated and willing to learn
