Job Summary
We are looking for a Bioinformatics Specialist (Research Officer) who will analyse and interpret complex biological datasets using computational and statistical approaches. This role involves developing pipelines, integrating multi-omics data, and generating actionable insights to support research in areas such as genomics, microbiome, transcriptomics, and systems biology.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for high-throughput data (e.g., genomics, metagenomics, RNA-seq)
- Perform data preprocessing, quality control, and statistical analysis of large-scale biological datasets
- Integrate multi-omics data (e.g., microbiome, metabolomics, clinical metadata)
- Apply machine learning and statistical modelling techniques to identify patterns and predictive features
- Interpret results and translate findings into biological insights
- Collaborate with experimental scientists, clinicians, and cross-functional teams
- Maintain documentation, reproducible workflows, and version-controlled code
- Generate visualizations, reports, and manuscripts for publication
- Stay updated with emerging tools, databases, and best practices in bioinformatics
- Ability to adapt to changing working conditions while effectively collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
Requirements:
- Master’s or bachelor’s in bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, or related field
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, and Bash
- Experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis would be preferrable
- Familiarity with commonly used bioinformatics tools and knowledge of statistics and data analysis methods would be an advantage
- Experience with cluster and cloud computing platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, HPC clusters)
- Knowledge of workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow)
