Job Summary
The Bioinformatics Institute (BII) is a leading research institute at the forefront of AI-driven biomedical data science, bioinformatics, computational biology, and data-driven life sciences. BII conducts cutting-edge research in areas including AI for drug discovery, biomolecular modelling, and multi-omics data integration, contributing significantly to national R&D strategies and translational impact.
As part of BII’s Tech-Biz team, you will work at the intersection of science, strategy, and execution, helping translate research innovation into impactful collaborations with industry, public sector, and academic partners.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically literate professional to join our Tech-Biz team as a Manager / Senior Manager. This role is suited for individuals who combine a solid understanding of AI-enabled drug discovery and biomedical research with strong communication, coordination, and execution capabilities.
You will work closely with the Director of Strategy and Tech-Biz, research leaders, and external partners to scope, structure, and execute collaborative projects, particularly in early-stage drug discovery. The role spans upstream engagement and project definition, through to downstream execution involving contracts, approvals, and institutional processes.
This is a hands-on role offering deep exposure to how complex, cutting-edge research collaborations are conceived, negotiated, and operationalised in a national research environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Scientific & Technical Scoping
- Develop a strong working understanding of BII’s research portfolio, with particular focus on data-driven drug discovery and early discovery workflows (e.g., target identification, hit discovery, lead optimisation).
- Work with internal research teams and external partners to scope collaborative projects, aligning scientific objectives, technical feasibility, timelines, and partner expectations.
- Translate scientific capabilities into well-defined project concepts and value propositions that support partnership discussions and decision-making.
Partnership Development & Stakeholder Engagement
- Support and drive partnership discussions with industry, public sector, and academic collaborators, working alongside senior scientific leadership.
- Act as a key coordination point across multiple stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout the collaboration lifecycle.
- Represent BII at selected meetings, workshops, and industry engagement activities as part of the Tech-Biz team.
Deal Structuring, Contracts & Institutional Processes
- Play a central role in the end-to-end execution of collaborations, including preparation of memos, approval papers, and agreement-related documentation.
- Support and manage contractual processes, working closely with legal, finance, compliance, and research teams to ensure agreements are robust, accurate, and aligned with institutional policies.
- Maintain oversight of multiple concurrent agreements and projects, tracking issues, risks, dependencies, and approvals across stakeholders.
- Ensure meticulous attention to detail in contracts and documentation, recognising their legal, financial, and reputational implications for the institute.
Market & Strategic Intelligence
- Conduct market and landscape analyses in data-driven drug discovery, bioinformatics, and related biomedical domains.
- Track industry trends, emerging technologies, and partnership models to support strategic positioning and collaboration planning.
Marketing & Engagement Support
- Contribute to the development of high-quality communication and marketing materials, including presentations, one-pagers, and briefing documents.
- Support the organisation of conferences, seminars, and industry engagement events when required.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in AI, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Strong technical literacy in AI-enabled biomedical research or drug discovery, with the ability to engage meaningfully with scientists and technical partners.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in technology translation, research partnerships, or science-driven business development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence working across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- High levels of patience, resilience, and persistence, particularly in navigating complex research program initiation processes.
- Exceptional attention to detail and appreciation of the legal and institutional implications of agreements.
- Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple open workstreams in parallel, often at different stages of maturity.
- Well-organised, proactive, and comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common workplace collaboration tools.
- Prior exposure to biotech, pharma, or AI-driven life science environments is an advantage.
