Role Summary
The Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), A*STAR, develops high-value manufacturing technologies, capabilities, and talent to strengthen the competitiveness of Singapore’s manufacturing sector. SIMTech works closely with local enterprises, companies with an SG manufacturing footprint, and ecosystem partners across sectors such as precision engineering, aerospace, electronics, semiconductor, energy, medtech, and other advanced manufacturing industries.
As part of SIMTech’s manufacturing transformation efforts, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced trainer to lead the delivery and further development of a flagship industry transformation programme that helps companies build practical roadmaps towards world-class manufacturing performance.
The successful candidate will play a key role in engaging companies, diagnosing transformation needs, facilitating executive and practitioner-level workshops, coaching companies through structured transformation planning, and translating business and operational challenges into actionable improvement and digitalisation initiatives. The role requires a strong blend of manufacturing domain knowledge, adult learning capability, consulting skills, facilitation experience, and the ability to work with senior business, operations, engineering, and digital leaders.
The key roles and responsibilities include:
- Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of training, coaching, and facilitation programmes for manufacturing companies.
- Engage senior management and operational teams to understand their business priorities, operational pain points, digital maturity, workforce capabilities, and transformation ambitions.
- Facilitate workshops that help companies identify performance gaps, prioritise transformation opportunities, define target outcomes, and develop practical implementation roadmaps.
- Apply structured transformation methodologies to guide companies in areas such as business strategy alignment, operational excellence, digital transformation, AI-enabled manufacturing, workforce transformation, and measurable impact creation.
- Coach companies beyond the classroom by supporting them in refining use cases, developing implementation plans, tracking progress, and strengthening internal ownership of transformation initiatives.
- Translate global best practices, including Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, operational excellence, and business transformation principles, into practical approaches suitable for Singapore-based manufacturers.
- Work with SIMTech researchers, technology groups, industry development teams, and external partners to connect companies with relevant capabilities, solutions, and collaboration opportunities.
- Develop high-quality training materials, facilitation guides, case studies, assessment tools, roadmapping templates, and executive-level content to support training delivery.
- Mentor junior trainers, facilitators, and project team members to strengthen SIMTech’s internal capability in transformation training and industry coaching.
- Support business development, company outreach, proposal development, and stakeholder engagement related to manufacturing transformation initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or other relevant disciplines.
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in manufacturing transformation, operations improvement, digital manufacturing, industry consulting, adult learning, or technology-enabled business transformation - Candidates with slightly fewer years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate strong facilitation capability, manufacturing credibility, and proven experience leading transformation-related programmes.
- Ability to engage both senior management and shopfloor / operational teams, and to translate between strategic priorities and practical implementation actions
- Good understanding of Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, digital transformation, AI / data-driven operations, automation, operational excellence, or related transformation domains
- Strong leadership qualities, including initiative, ownership, collaboration, and the ability to influence without formal authority
- Customer-focused, outcome-oriented, and comfortable working with companies of different sizes, sectors, and maturity levels
