About the Job

The Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE2) was established by A*STAR in 2022 to support Singapore's decarbonisation and sustainability goals, through strong international partnerships with industry, public agencies, and academia. ISCE2 is located at Jurong Island.

The Senior Manager / Assistant Director / Senior Assistant Director will manage the accounts of specialty chemicals R&D collaborations with industry partners, to ensure integration of innovation and translational R&D outcomes to enhance Singapore’s attractiveness as a global Energy & Chemicals (E&C) node. This role will bring projects into fruition across the entire technology-business development lifecycle, from intellectual property (IP) proliferation in product development, to successful scale up of new and improved technology commercialization in the market. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in managing innovation programs with external partners, and a passion to bridge the gap between early-stage research and commercial deployment in the energy, chemicals, biotechnologies and specialty chemicals sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • The candidate is responsible for securing and meeting key performance indicators for industry R&D investment including building business partnerships and technical collaboration opportunities to commercialise technologies from research labs
  • The candidate is effective in review of technologies, prioritize and establish strategies to commercialize A*STAR intellectual properties in the area of decarbonisation and specialty chemicals.
  • The candidate is required to manage, encourage, support the development and protection of intellectual property and establish IP and business strategies to assist in assessment of inventions, identification of potential markets and competitive technologies.
  • The candidate is expected to be proactive in scoping/ supporting and manage specific projects to develop initiatives in innovation, IP management creating an impact, including acquiring industry grants and contracts through meetings with researchers and external entities.
  • The candidate will need to demonstrate passion to work with scientists and industries to understand key challenges and find the right solutions to build relationship and understand the technology landscape, highlighting key trends and opportunities to accelerate spin-out, licensing, and provide leadership and oversight to achieve desired success.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's or higher degree in engineering, chemistry, biotechnology or a related field.
• Minimum 5-10 years of experience in account management, product development or public-private partnership innovation ecosystem, with business experience, and strong industry network is desirable
• Proven track record in supporting the commercialization of technologies, especially in the chemicals, specialty chemicals or biotechnology sectors with MNCs, local enterprises and/or start ups is highly preferred.
• Knowledge in handling intellectual property and management including identification, due diligence and protection of IP is an advantage
• Effective communication and negotiation skills, capable of engaging diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to navigate complex technology development lifecycles, from research to commercialization.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to identify opportunities for collaboration and growth within the innovation ecosystem.
