Job Summary
BRC is an AAALAC International accredited and bizSAFE Level 3 certified laboratory animal facility established in Biopolis in 2005, as a service facility under Biomedical Sciences Institutes. Its mission is to provide high quality research animal services to support the vibrant research culture for biological and biomedical sciences, in order to support the development of biotechnology for the human healthcare industry in Singapore.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to a supervisor, the successful candidate will provide husbandry and care for animals and their environment according to standards and established workflows in BRC. The successful candidate will receive training in the best husbandry practices and will be expected to implement these
- Maintain cleaning and sanitization standards in the facility
- Expected to uphold safety practices and procedures in the facility such as wearing of scrubs and PPE (including masks)
- Perform daily health checks and relay abnormal findings to the veterinarians, facility managers and/or researchers
- Working with the veterinarians in monitoring colony health
- Expected to perform administrative tasks including census, animal identification, and logs
- Perform job functions and gain working knowledge of regulatory compliance, and animal care and use guidelines including NACLAR Guidelines and AAALAC International
Requirements
- Preferably a Diploma in scientific subjects such as General Biology, Veterinary or Laboratory Animal Science
- AALAS certification and familiarity of NACLAR Guidelines would be considered an asset
- Preferably with at least 1 year of experience working with laboratory animals
- Training will be provided for candidates without prior experience
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently and have good verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse personalities
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Required to lift 10kg bag of diet and pull trolleys 2m in height
- Should be comfortable being on their feet most of the day and occasionally squatting or using a step stool to check on the animals
- Required to perform basic animal procedures such as handling, injections, and other routine experimental techniques as assigned
- Must be able to work at least 1 Saturday and 1 Sunday a month
- Must be able to use a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR)
- Able to demonstrate initiative, strong work ethic and integrity
- Carry out other work as assigned by their supervisor and manager
