Job Description
The Laboratory Officer will be responsible and hands-on to manage the day-to-day operations of a research laboratory involving the use of chemicals, lab equipment and experiment processes. This role requires the candidate to maintain a safe, organized and efficient lab environment while supporting researchers and project team in the execution of ongoing projects.
The role requires good lab discipline and knowledge of safe chemical handling practices, strong organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate day-to day lab activities. The Laboratory Officer will also serve as the day-to-day lab supervisor, ensuring proper housekeeping, inventory management, equipment readiness, documentation, and compliance with safety requirements.
Job Responsibilities
Lab Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the research lab, including housekeeping, equipment maintenance, inventory management, lab scheduling, general coordination and safety protocols.
- Ensure that the lab is clean, organized, safe and adequately stocked with necessary materials and supplies for ongoing experiments and projects.
- Coordinate with vendors for procurement of equipment and supplies as needed. Such as equipment servicing, preventive maintenance, calibration, and repair activities with internal team and external vendors.
- Maintain proper records for chemical inventory, equipment usage, maintenance logs, calibration records in accordance with laboratory standards and regulations.
- Supports the development, implementation and continuous improvement of laboratory workflows, standard operating procedures, and safety practices.

Experimental Support:
- Assist researchers and project teams with sample preparation, experimental setup, data collection, and basic data analysis.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide guidance on experimental procedures as required.
- Conduct routine calibration and maintenance for project specific equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and observations in detailed lab records.

- Collaborate with project teams to support the execution of research projects
- Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensure that milestones are met in a timely manner.
- Communicate regularly with project stakeholders to provide updates on progress and address any concerns or challenges that arise.

- Provide training and guidance to new lab members on proper laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and equipment operations.
- Stay informed about advancements in analysis techniques commonly used in the lab through literature review and professional development activities.
- Share knowledge and best practices with other members of the research team to enhance overall safety, efficiency and experimental reliability.
Job Requirements
- Diploma or equivalent qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably with a focus on electrochemistry/chemistry.
- Good knowledge of laboratory safety practices, chemical handling, chemical storage, chemical labelling, waste disposal, and risk assessment procedures.
- Hands-on experience preparing chemical solutions, handling laboratory samples, operating laboratory equipment, and supporting experimental work.
- Familiarity with general laboratory instruments, tools, and equipment used for sample preparation, measurement, testing, or analysis.
- Ability to perform routine equipment checks, basic troubleshooting, and coordination of maintenance, calibration, or servicing activities.
