Business Development Senior Manager- Experimental Drug Development Centre

Enabling venture creation and commercialization of Singapore-discovered therapeutics

The Experimental Drug Development Centre (EDDC) is Singapore’s national platform for drug development. Together with public sector and industry partners, EDDC translates biomedical and clinical research into small and large molecule therapeutic assets, advancing these from concept to commercial partnership or venture creation.

We are seeking a driven Business Development Senior Manager to operate at the intersection of science, venture creation, and capital. This role will play a key part in EDDC’s goal to contribute to the creation of new biotech companies in Singapore’s ecosystem.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary drug discovery teams, founders, investors, and senior leadership to shape how assets are positioned for company creation, venture funding, and long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Asset/ Platform Positioning

  • Identify and evaluate EDDC programs suitable for spin-out into venture-backed NewCos. Assess portfolio projects with a dual lens: venture creation vs. traditional partnering
  • Work with scientific teams to define Target Product Profiles and development strategies aligned with investor expectations
  • Evaluate competitive landscape, unmet need, differentiation, and venture scalability potential. Identify key value inflection points to maximize attractiveness for fundraising or strategic partnerships
  • Lead the formulation of plans for NewCos, including defining value proposition, development strategy, and early financing needs. Help consider indication selection, development roadmap, and market positioning
  • Support the development of EDDC scientists interested in spinning-out including mentoring on commercial thinking, investor engagement, and company-building fundamentals, also through working with existing venture training programs in the ecosystem

VC & Investor Engagement

  • Build and manage relationships with venture capital firms and venture builders, corporate venture arms, and early-stage biotech investors
  • Position EDDC’s pipeline and spinout opportunities to the global investor community
  • Working closely with the scientific teams towards preparation of investor materials (pitch decks, data package) tailored for venture audiences

Partnering & Deal Execution

  • Support licensing, co-development, and spinout transactions in collaboration with A*STAR Innovation & Enterprise and Legal teams
  • Participate in the negotiation of agreements relevant to spinouts and venture-backed companies (e.g., licenses, research collaborations)
  • Manage diligence processes for investors and strategic partners, including virtual data rooms

Experience and Background

  • Degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine; PhD, MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • 2 to 6+ years of experience in biotech venture, business development, investment, consulting, or technology commercialization
  • Exposure to venture creation, startup formation, or early-stage investing in biotech/healthcare
  • Familiarity with fundraising processes, investor expectations, and term sheet dynamics is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of drug development pathways, regulatory considerations, and IP strategy

Capabilities

  • Strong ability to translate scientific assets into compelling investment theses
  • Comfortable engaging both scientific founders and institutional investors
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in building companies from the ground up
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills (pitch decks, investor narratives)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, self-driven, and highly collaborative

If you are motivated by building companies from cutting-edge science, working with scientific teams, and engaging the global venture ecosystem, and want to help shape Singapore’s biotech innovation landscape, we welcome your application.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
