Job Description

We are seeking an early-career  Engineer to join our team and help turn diagnostic technology into product for commercialisation and adoption. This role is well suited to engineer with a biophysical background (preferred) or biomedical engineers who are keen to move from academic research into hands-on, translational product development.

As part of a cross-functional team, you will contribute to the design, development, characterisation, and testing of medical devices that span hardware, chemistry, biology, and software. You will bring the experimental rigour and quantitative skills of a researcher into a regulated development environment — working alongside experienced engineers and scientists and building your skills in productisation, verification and validation, and design under a quality system (such as ISO 13485).

We are looking for someone curious and hands-on: comfortable working at the bench, designing and running experiments, analysing data, and troubleshooting — and eager to learn how research prototypes become robust, manufacturable products.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, build, characterisation, and testing of diagnostic devices and their subsystems — across hardware, chemistry/assay, and/or software.
  • Plan and run bench experiments, characterisation studies, and prototype testing, and analyse the resulting data.
  • Support verification and validation activities, including preparing and executing test protocols under guidance.
  • Work within cross-functional teams — engineering, assay/chemistry, design, and others — to develop cohesive solutions.
  • Help translate user needs and the value-based Target Product Profile (TPP) into technical requirements and test plans.
  • Troubleshoot experimental and technical issues using a structured, analytical approach.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation — experimental records, test protocols, and reports — in line with regulatory requirements such as ISO 13485.
  • Manage your own tasks and timelines, track progress against project milestones, and communicate results and risks clearly to the team.

Key Requirement

  • Strong acedemic training including PhD in biophysics, physics, bioengineering, or a related discipline. Postdoctoral experience with a biophysical focus is preferred; 
  • Strong hands-on experimental skills, with a track record of designing, running, and analysing experiments.
  • Quantitative and analytical skills, strong methantmical foundation including data analysis with tools such as Python, MATLAB, Origin, or R.
  • Genuine interest in translating research into products — moving from prototypes toward robust, testable devices.
  • Familiarity with, or a clear willingness to learn, medical device development and quality systems (such as ISO 13485).
  • Comfort navigating uncertain situations without clear guidelines, and adaptability to changing conditions and priorities.
  • Curiosity and a proactive approach to gathering the information needed for decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain technical work clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more techniques relevant to diagnostics such as biosensing, microfluidics, optics / photonics, electrochemistry, spectroscopy, imaging, single-molecule methods, or molecular / protein assays.
  • Exposure to hardware–software–chemistry integration or instrument development.
