BMRC also advances strategic planning, operational excellence and digital transformation to strengthen A*STAR’s R&D infrastructure and translate scientific advances into economic, health and societal impact.
We are looking for a highly driven individual to help build the data, compute and AI infrastructure that will power the next generation of biomedical research. The role will enable advanced AI, agentic AI systems and self-driving laboratories, while driving AI adoption and uplifting AI competencies across the biomedical research community.
You will shape A*STAR’s digital and computational backbone, provide thought leadership on emerging AI and lab-automation technologies, and work with A*STAR research units, IT and compute teams, public agencies, universities, hospitals and industry partners to translate infrastructure strategy into research and innovation outcomes for Singapore.
Responsibilities:
- Infrastructure Strategy & Development: Work with research, IT/compute teams and key opinion leaders to design and build data, compute and AI infrastructure for biomedical research, including high-performance computing, cloud/GPU resources, data platforms and AI/ML tooling.
- AI Adoption & Capability Building: Identify high-value AI use cases, embed AI tools into research workflows, and design training, enablement and communities of practice to uplift AI competencies and track adoption outcomes.
- Ecosystem & Vendor Engagement: Build partnerships with public agencies, universities, hospitals, cloud/compute providers and industry players to accelerate AI and automation infrastructure adoption.
- Strategic Foresight: Monitor global trends in AI infrastructure, high-performance computing, agentic AI and self-driving labs to keep A*STAR biomedical research at the frontier.
- Governance & Operations: Manage governance, administration and performance of data, compute and AI infrastructure programmes, including data governance, reliability, cost and capacity management, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Degree or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data/Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics or a related quantitative discipline. Biomedical Sciences degrees may be considered with relevant data, AI or compute infrastructure experience.
- At least 5 years’ experience in data infrastructure, AI/ML systems, high-performance computing, cloud engineering or research computing.
- Demonstrated ability to formulate and deliver strategic infrastructure initiatives in large or multidisciplinary organisations.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML infrastructure, cloud/HPC, data platforms and biomedical research applications; familiarity with agentic AI and self-driving or automated laboratory technologies is an advantage.
- Experience driving technology adoption and capability building, with the ability to translate technical AI concepts for scientific audiences.
- Independent and collaborative with strong analytical, written and oral communication skills. Values integrity, teamwork and excellence.
