Job Summary

About the Role

The Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), A*STAR, is seeking an outstanding Senior Research Scientist to lead cutting-edge research in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Vision-Language Models (VLMs), Multimodal AI, and Agentic AI Systems.

The successful candidate will drive the development of next-generation AI technologies for healthcare, biomedical, and scientific applications, translating fundamental AI advances into impactful real-world solutions.


Key Responsibilities

Research & Innovation

  • Lead and conduct high-impact research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision.
  • Develop novel algorithms and models in areas such as:
    • Multimodal Learning
    • Foundation Models
    • Generative AI and Large Language Models
    • Computer Vision
    • Agentic AI Systems
  • Design scalable AI systems capable of integrating heterogeneous data sources, including imaging, sensor, text, and clinical data.
  • Develop methodologies for prediction, reasoning, decision support, and knowledge discovery.

Translational AI

  • Drive the development of reusable AI platforms, foundation models, and intelligent agent systems.
  • Translate AI innovations into healthcare, biomedical, and scientific applications.
  •  Lead collaborations with clinicians, scientists, academic institutions, government agencies, and industry partners.
  • Contribute to technology transfer, intellectual property generation, and commercialization opportunities.

Scientific Leadership

  • Publish high-quality research in leading AI, machine learning, and application-domain conferences and journals.
  • Contribute to grant proposals, project planning, and intellectual property development.
  • Mentor junior researchers, engineers, and students.
  • Represent IHPC in collaborations with academic, clinical, government, and industry partners.

Requirements

Essential

  • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong track record in AI/ML research demonstrated through publications, patents, or impactful projects.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and modern machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience developing and evaluating machine learning and deep learning models.
