Job Description
We are seeking an innovative and technically skilled researcher to join our team, specializing in adaptive machining. is a key technology for generative and regenerative applications at the heart of ARTC’s remanufacturing and manufacturing research. We are looking for people with the passion and drive to join us as part of the Remanufacturing Process Technology (RPT) Group. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of advanced machining solutions, integrating digital technologies, process optimization, and data-driven manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
- Perform research, conduct experimental work and analysis in a project-based environment
- Operate and set up CNC machines for precision machining and experimental trials
- Develop and optimize machining programs using CAD/CAM software (Siemens NX preferred)
- Apply machining knowledge to improve process efficiency, tool life, and part quality
- Conduct data collection, analysis, and interpretation to support adaptive machining strategies
- Design and develop fixtures and tooling solutions for machining applications
- Plan and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) for process validation and optimization
- Support workshop operations, including 5S implementation, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) compliance, machine installation, relocation, and commissioning
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
- Stay updated on state-of-the-art technologies in advanced manufacturing and machining
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on industrial experience operating CNC machines, candidates with experience in the following sectors will have an advantage: Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Semiconductor, Precision Engineering or Advanced Manufacturing
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM programming (preferably Siemens NX) including Post Processor customisation
- Strong understanding of machining processes (milling, turning, tooling, materials)
- Programming skills (C#, Python), knowledge of machine communication protocols (e.g., OPC-UA, TCP/IP) and experience with PLC programming would be advantageous
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and process improvement
- Knowledge of fixture and tooling design principles
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
- High level of initiative, adaptability, and innovation mindset
- Good command of English (written and spoken)
