Role Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The successful candidate will have the opportunities to participate in research and industry projects in additive manufacturing (AM), particularly on the space of composites, as well as metallic and polymer. He / She will be involved in a challenging and dynamic research and development environment. The assistant engineer’s responsibilities include 3D printing, post processing, characterization, measurement, and mechanical testing. The assistant engineer also supports the group’s research activities through procurement, equipment maintenance, and risks assessments.

Operate equipment to perform 3D printing and relevant post-processes (e.g. cam-based systems), material characterization such as tensile, compression and bending tests and inspection (e.g., CMM), NDT as part of the assessment of part and component quality within the industry project.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support product testing including setup, data acquisition, data post-processing, and failure investigation post testing.
  • Generating ideas and solutions based on customer’s problem statement and discuss with the team for a workable solution.
  • Responsible for design and generating jig and fixturing 2D/3D drawings to assist on part fabrication and documentation as well as archiving purposes.
  • Manage and work with local machining house for jig and fixture fabrication and assembly.
  • Carry out routine maintenance of equipment, diagnostics checks and engage vendors for preventive maintenance.
  • Perform function tests to verify equipment readiness after maintenance or material change.
  • Plan equipment schedule, maintain and improve lab environment, and manage raw feedstock and maintain stock/inventory list.
  • Responsible for ensuring duties are performed in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.

 

JOB REQUIREMENT

  • NITEC or Diploma in engineering related qualifications.
  • At least 3-years work experience in manufacturing roles within the aerospace / MRO / oil and gas / manufacturing industry. Candidates with > 5-year experience will be considered for a senior role.
  • Capabilities in CAD and 2D drawings using NX/SolidWorks, with knowledge in GD&T will be beneficial.
  • Traditional methods of inspections such as NDT with handheld measurement tools and preparation of FAI documents is preferred.
  • Knowledge in additive manufacturing technologies and composite material is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity in handling CAM based systems such as robotic system/CNC is an added advantage.
  • Methods of processing and post processing of composites parts such as prototyping and knowledge in metallic fixture design is preferred.
  • A team player who is motivated, proactive and self-starter to solve technical challenges and deliver on time to customers.
  • Willingness to learn, grow and adapt to new technology promptly.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and highly-detail oriented.
