The A*STAR Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB) is inviting applications for a Senior Principal Investigator to lead a research programme in cell and gene therapy for Ophthalmological Disorders, with a focus on cell and gene therapy, viral capsid engineering and disease biology.
We are looking for a creative and driven scientist to develop new molecular strategies for treating disease and contribute to IMCB?s mission of advancing scientific discovery, enabling technology innovation, and supporting Singapore?s growing biotech ecosystem. The focus will be on advancing biological insights to support the development of innovative therapies.
This position represents a mature independent investigator with sustained global recognition and demonstrated ability to lead complex research programs and teams. This includes the need for prior experience in leading multidisciplinary initiatives, and/or translate scientific discoveries into clinical, industrial, or societal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Define and lead a globally competitive research program aligned with institutional strategic themes.

Establish new scientific directions that position the institute at the forefront of emerging areas in ophthalmology.

Provide intellectual leadership across divisions and contribute to institute-wide scientific strategy.

Translate discoveries toward clinical application, industry partnerships, or commercialization.

Develop collaborations with hospitals, industry partners, and international research organizations.

Develop and apply advanced cell and gene therapy approaches for ophthalmological applications and beyond.

Provide scientific and professional mentorship to junior scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff; foster a culture of scientific rigor and innovation.

Support translational programs through the development of lead molecules with a path towards IND-enabling studies.
Qualifications and Requirements

PhD in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field

At least 10+ years of experience leading an independent research program or equivalent scientific leadership track record.

Established independent investigator with sustained funding success.

Demonstrated leadership of large research teams or multi-institutional programs.

Internationally recognised track record of high-impact publications, scientific leadership, and successful grant acquisition.
