A Research fellow/Senior Research fellow is needed for Nick Barker’s Epithelial Stem Cell Group at the Institute of Medical Biology, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). This group focuses on elucidating the role of epithelial stem cells (Barker N et al. Nature 449:1003; Nature, 457: 608; Cell Stem Cell 6:25; Nature Cell Biology 16:745; Nature Cell Biology 19:774; Nature 578:437; Nature Cell Biology 23:1299) in tissue renewal/regeneration and cancer of various tissues, including the intestine, stomach, skin and ovary. The successful candidate will be expected to independently drive projects seeking to elucidate the role of Lgr5/Aqp5-expressing stem cells in epithelial regeneration and disease in the stomach and using a novel mouse model of advanced gastric cancer, together with in vivo ablation models and ex-vivo organoid culture/orthotopic transplantation methodologies.
Successful applicants must have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline.
The successful candidate will be expected to independently manage a variety of related projects seeking to understand the role of Lgr5/Aqp5-expressing stem cell populations in driving epithelial regeneration and research officer assigned to these projects and help facilitate access to human samples through interaction with local clinicians, with the ultimate aim of obtaining high impact publications and exploiting any translational opportunities in line with A-STAR’s mission.
