MedTech Catapult is a national initiative for accelerating the development of high-value MedTech projects through an in-house product engineering unit. This productization unit is responsible for supporting the development of technologies through the medical device development cycle to produce full-fledged hardware product systems. The Lead Engineer will report to the Lead, Product Engineering.

Lead Firmware Engineer
Job Responsibilities
· Lead the design and development of integrated hardware and firmware solutions for innovative medical devices.
· Drive embedded system architecture, firmware development, and electronics design to meet product requirements.
· Translate or decompose product requirements to lower-level embedded subsystem requirements.
· Develop control systems, PCBs, and embedded software to support both prototype and production phases.
· Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to achieve optimized, manufacturable product designs.
· Conduct system integration, testing, debugging, and validation of hardware and software components.
· Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance activities (e.g., IEC, ISO standards).
· Support the development of intellectual property in device design and technology know-how.
· Prepare and maintain clear technical documentation in line with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 13485).
· Engage with external partners, vendors, and suppliers as needed to define specifications and ensure project success.
· Support other engineering or product development activities as required.
Requirements
· Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
· At least 8-10 years of relevant experience in embedded systems, electronic design, or hardware-software integration.
· Proven experience with ARM microcontrollers, RTOS, low-level driver development, single-board computer and Linux system.
· Hands-on experience with analog/digital circuit design and schematic capture.
· Familiar with wireless protocols (e.g. BLE, WiFi) and sensor integration (temperature, pressure, motion, CMOS, etc)
· Good understanding of networking (e.g TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTPs) and edge/cloud integration (MQTT, REST APIs).
· Basic understanding of security best practices in IoT and server environments.
· Knowledge of relevant medical device standards (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601-1, IEC 62304) is an advantage.
· Experience with system integration, testing, and debugging.
· Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
